Historical Timeline

The beginning

Samuel William McCain was the 4th of 9 children to Reverend Samuel and Juanita McCain.  He was the first of the kids to be born in West Virginia.  He was a bit of hellraiser, although very intelligent.  Those who knew him well, knew he held on these traits throughout his life.

US Navy

He joined the Navy on June 1, 1955 where he quickly rose up the ranks, retiring as a Master Chief, after serving for 23 years.  If Sam was in the military now, he might not have lasted as long with his fiery personality and quick wit!

Marriage

In 1964 he married the love of his life, Effie Lee Montgomery. They were married for 45 years!  Throughout their years together, they went through all of life's highs and lows but always did it together.

Nortel

He started his second career in 1978. Consistently paid by others to hear him talk, he began as a Technical Instructor.  He would retire as Director of Sales after over 20 years

Family

Sam was the man of the family in a house full of girls.  Although the girls gave him a run for his money, literally and figuratively, he was the adored man of the house.  He loved his family deeply and they loved him too. The house was never empty with people coming in to have a chat or enjoy some cherry delight.

Hobbies

Sam loved to serve at Carey Hill,  reading books, doing the crossword, bowling,  playing scrabble with his brother Bobby and playing cards with anyone who was daring enough to sit at the table.
